UK NPAW 2023 Flagship Event – Creating Connections and Rediscovering Joy – Monday 18 September

What is a “Postdoc”? How similar/different is this across different disciplines, and with the increased focus on interdisciplinary research, how can we communicate and connect across divides? Come explore with us in this event, starting with a take on the nuances of words by best-selling author and comedian Dave Chawner (https://www.davechawner.co.uk/), followed by conversations and discussion panel led by Prof Ian Sabroe and Dr Dieter Declercq, hosts of the podcast ‘Conversations about Arts, Humanities and Health’, on how to create collaborative environments, break preconceived ideologies, and rediscover the joy that drives us forward with what we do! On the panel we have researchers Dr Claire Burridge (University of Sheffield, History of Health and Medicine), Dr Élaina Gauthier-Mamaril (University of Edinburgh, Philosophy and Bioethics), and Dr Mukti Singh (University of Manchester, Protein Structure and Function).

When: 18th September, 10.30am (expected run time around 1.5 hours, the event will close latest at 12.30pm)

School of Biological Sciences Postdoc Appreciation Week Social – Tuesday 19 September

In appreciation of the amazing work you do in our School, we would like to invite all SBS Postdoc colleagues to come together and enjoy some time out of the labs to celebrate Postdoc Appreciation Week!  Your lab colleagues – PhD students, technicians and academics – are also welcome, to help you celebrate – though you will receive extra drink vouchers this year (as it is your special event after all).  So please do join us for free pizza and drinks in the Michael Smith Quad and Lounge at 3pm on Tuesday 19 September. Drinks will be free (with vouchers), after which a subsidised bar (cash only) will be available until 5pm.

Please note, on the day, this event will be open to only those who have pre-registered via the below Eventbrite link.  This is because there are strict health and safety capacity guidelines in place for the Michael Smith Lounge; we also want to ensure that there is sufficient pizza for those who have officially registered their attendance.

We ask that any special dietary requirement is noted when registering.  We will do our best to accommodate all known special diets; vegetarian and vegan options will be provided.

We look forward to seeing you there!
