Role of PIs and Research Leaders in Supporting Researcher Development
The University is committed to creating a healthy, collegiate and supportive research environment in which research staff can thrive, develop and carry out excellent research. Every PI and leader of a research team plays a vital role in creating that environment. Information about relevant resources, support and further information for PIs is provided here.
PI Toolkit
Created in consultation with academic colleagues across the institution, this University of Manchester-focused toolkit supports PIs to develop a working environment that benefits their research staff, and the wider research community, by adapting their management and leadership skills to best support individual researchers.
The toolkit brings together information on all aspects of managing researchers, with suggestions from PIs on how to approach the different aspects of the role along with signposting to relevant policies, processes and further support.

Induction Checklist for PIs and Managers of Research Staff
Research staff make a significant contribution to the work of the University and providing a welcome and formal induction ensures that their research journey gets off to the best possible start. In addition to the University induction documents and welcome events PIs may also find the induction checklist specifically for research staff a useful guide.
