A series of 30 minute online sessions designed for research staff; postgraduate research students are welcome to attend. The workshop topics span LinkedIn to common interview questions and are an opportunity for researchers to dedicate manageable periods of time to their career development:
- CVs in 30 Minutes – This session will highlight CV mistakes that researchers sometimes make and consider how to avoid them.
- Ten Top Tips for Your LinkedIn profile -This session gives you tips that you can use to maximise the impact of your LinkedIn profile as a researcher.
- Using LinkedIn to Build Professional Connections – This session will explain different elements of LinkedIn that you can use to build your professional connections to develop your career.
- Tell Me About Yourself and Other Interview Questions – A quick run through of common questions asked at academic and other sector interviews, and tips on preparing your answers.
- Techniques to Describe Yourself Genuinely to Others – Talking about ourselves can sometimes make us feel uncomfortable, but it’s something we need to do. This session will explore approaches to sharing your experiences that feels genuine.
- Making Value-Led Decisions About Your Life – We all make decisions every day. By bringing values into our decision making, we can aim to make decisions that will align with what we want from life.
- Covering Letters – This session will run through what you are looking to include in a covering letter for a job. You will be given an approach that you can use and adapt for your own needs.
- Career Options Beyond Academia – This session will break down some of the myths about careers beyond academia and show you the different way people ‘pivot’ their academic research skills into other sectors.
- Fellowships 101- What, Where and How of Applying for Research Fellowships – This session will discuss different types of fellowships appropriate at different career stages. We will look at where to find information about fellowships both at the University of Manchester and beyond. Please note this is a beginners guide to fellowships – all questions are welcome!
